A Teacher’s Perspective on November

Dear Editor,

Vermonters will have an important choice at the polls in November for Lieutenant Governor. Over the last two years, Lt. Governor David Zuckerman has mainly focused on helping the Montpelier Majority pursue an unsustainable agenda that seeks to raise taxes and add to Vermonters’ cost of living. I listened carefully when Lt. Gov. Zuckerman addressed our student body last year; I urge your readers now to consider the candidacy of Don Turner. We need a Lieutenant Governor that recognizes our fiscal challenges, who will focus on affordability, and who knows how to achieve balance and collaboration.Rep. Don Turner is that leader.

Don has spent his entire adult life serving his community—as a first responder, Town Manager, and legislator. And as House Minority Leader under three Governors, he’s had to break down barriers, build bridges, and bring people of different political backgrounds together. Don also knows we desperately need to revitalize our education system in Vermont. As a teacher for 37 years, I know that one size doesn’t fit all—both inside and outside the classroom. Don Turner has been a dedicated voice in the Legislature for school choice, independent schools, and spending our education dollars more wisely. Our student population continues to decline while property taxes continue to go up. Don knows that we need to couple efficiencies with investments in innovation, so we spend more on our students and less on bureaucracy. I hope you’ll join me in November in voting for Don Turner for Lieutenant Governor.

Sorry but you think sending tax payers dollars to charter schools is the answer. I will be voting for David Zuckerman not a Republican that wants to cut school spending. That’s the typical Republican talking point.
